The Power of Volunteering: Empowering Our Future Leaders

Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking to preteen girls at the Girls Mentorship Summer Camp. We talked about the importance of speaking highly of themselves and having integrity. We discussed how talking kind words and giving compliments, both in the presence and absence of others, can shape a positive environment. This experience was incredibly special and meaningful to me.

We did an activity together that has been tried and true to all students that I have worked with. Each girl received a piece of paper to tape to their back, we changed the narrative. Writing on each others back with positive affirmations, compliments, words of encouragement. Seeing each girl light up and beam with pride was beautiful.

As a photographer and women-owned business coach, volunteering aligns perfectly with my work. It’s more than just giving back; it’s about investing in our future. By volunteering my time, I aim to inspire and empower the next generation. It’s crucial to feed into today’s youth, helping them grow into confident, kind, and respectful individuals.

At the camp, I saw firsthand how impactful these conversations can be. The girls were eager to learn and share their thoughts. Their eyes lit up when they realized the power of their words. They understood that speaking kindly about themselves and others can make a significant difference in their lives and the lives of those around them.
