What our kids REALLY think…

Take a look at what our kids REALLY think that we do as entrepreneurs. We are showing them what it’s like to live our dreams and the dedication it takes to do so.

A Conversation With My Son About Entrepreneurship (Through a 10-Year-Old’s Eyes)

Every once in a while, something happens in your business that reminds you exactly why you started in the first place. Here is what our kids REALLY think. For me, it was sitting down with my 10-year-old son, Tyler, and asking him what he really thinks about entrepreneurship, building a business, and growing up with two parents who dream big.

What started as a simple conversation turned into one of the most meaningful videos I’ve ever recorded, not because it was perfect, but because it was real. Kids don’t filter, and they don’t sugarcoat. They simply tell the truth from the lens of what they see every single day.

And honestly? Their perspective is powerful. It is truly what our kids really think!

What Our Kids Notice When We Chase Big Dreams

Tyler shared what he thinks Mom and Dad actually do for work, and yes, some of his answers made me laugh. But right underneath the funny moments, there were these tiny pieces of wisdom that made me pause.

He notices when we’re focused.
Even sees when we’re excited.
Noticing when we’re helping other people do something meaningful.

It reminded me that entrepreneurship doesn’t just shape our lives, it shapes our kids’ understanding of possibility, courage, and what it means to build something from the ground up. They watch how we treat people, how we recover from challenges, and how we keep going even on the days that feel heavy.

The Lessons He’s Learned Watching Us Build, What kids really think we do

Hearing Tyler reflect on our businesses (in his own 10-year-old way) was like receiving a little highlight reel through his eyes.

He talked about:

  • What it looks like when Mom is on a photoshoot or coaching call
  • The way Dad builds and fixes and creates
  • How our dreams have influenced the way he thinks about his own
  • Why he believes grown-ups should keep trying, even when something feels hard

Kids absorb everything, not because we’re perfect parents, but because we’re modeling what it looks like to care, to serve, and to keep showing up.

His Own Dreams (They Melted Me)

I loved hearing him talk about what he wants to build someday. There’s something beautiful about how kids dream without limits. You don’t ask, “Is this practical?” It’s simply imagining what feels exciting and true.

And I think that’s something so many of us lose along the way. It’s that innocent permission to explore, to try things, to change our minds, and to create because it lights us up.

This conversation reminded me to hold space for dreams, mine, my clients’, my community’s, and the ones growing inside the hearts of my boys.

A Reminder for Every Parent & Entrepreneur

Are you a parent chasing a vision, growing a business, or stepping into leadership? Then this video is a gentle nudge that your work reaches far beyond your clients or your bank account.

Your kids see you.
They learn from your courage.
Even shaped by the way you build, pivot, rest, and rise again.

The impact is generational, whether you notice it day to day or not.

Why I Wanted to Share This Moment

As a brand photographer, business coach, and founder of Connect Belong, I spend my days championing women who want to build in a way that feels aligned, authentic, and grounded in who they are.

In the video with Tyler brought me back to the heart of it all:
The work we do matters, not just for us, but for the people we love.

It isn’t about building a perfect business.
It’s about building a meaningful life.

One where our kids feel the ripple effect of our courage.
Where connection and belonging guide the way.
When dreaming big feels safe, supported, and shared.

If you want to watch the full conversation, it’s here and I hope it brings you the same warmth it brought me. And maybe, just maybe, it will remind you to slow down and ask the little ones in your life what they see… because their answers might change your heart a bit too.
